Dario Di Giannantonio's story is one of perseverance, purpose, and an unshakeable love for this community. He arrived in Canada as an immigrant, stepping off the ship at Pier 21 in Halifax with little more than determination — and he never looked back.
Through hard work and a deep commitment to education, Dario earned university degrees in both Canada and the United States. He built a career in business leadership while raising a family in Vaughan — the city he chose as home and has proudly served ever since. He is a loving husband, father of three, and grandfather of two.
Dario made history as the first Italo-Canadian elected to Vaughan City Council and later to York Regional Council — breaking barriers and opening doors for a generation of newcomers who saw in him proof that Canada's promise is real. He went on to serve as Deputy Mayor of Vaughan, earning a reputation for integrity, fiscal responsibility, and genuine care for residents.
Beyond the council chambers, Dario has always been found where the community gathers. He has been a passionate supporter of minor sports in Vaughan for decades — coaching and cheering on the sidelines of soccer fields and baseball diamonds, investing in the young people who are the future of this city.
I came to this country with nothing but hope. Vaughan gave me everything — and I have spent my life giving back.
— Dario Di Giannantonio
Core Values
Transparent, honest leadership — the same standard Dario held himself to throughout his years on Vaughan Council and York Regional Council.
Responsible stewardship of public funds and a commitment to delivering real results for the students and families of Ward 2-3.
As an immigrant who overcame real barriers, Dario champions schools where every child — regardless of background — feels safe, valued, and able to thrive.
From the soccer pitch to the baseball diamond, Dario has always shown up for Vaughan families. That commitment doesn't stop at the school board door.
